Printing the Letters $540
with Mr. Deveaux

8 weeks: 9/3-11/3
for children ages 5-7When children can print the letters of the alphabet, they can use writing as a tool for learning and self expression. In the course of 8 weeks, students will be given instruction on the letter formation of all the capital and lowercase letters of the alphabet. They’ll be given practice in imaginative and fun ways. We’re going to engage movement, and multisensory experiences to make learning fun and engaging. Along the course of learning to write the letters, students will be ingrained with their sound associations. Homework will be assigned in between classes so kids get adequate practice.

Cursive $540

8 weeks: 9/2-10/30
for children ages 9-16 who can properly print all the capital and lowercase letters of the alphabetThe benefits of learning cursive are plentiful. For one thing, cursive makes writing faster and easier. For another, people who can write cursive can also read it. Students use cursive as a tool for note taking, and for learning to spell. They take pride in cultivating neat, beautiful writing.
Students will learn the cursive formation of the capital and lowercase letters. They’ll work with a variety of writing materials in a fun, social setting. With homework in between classes, students will get the practice they need to achieve elegant and functional cursive writing. The class will culminate in a project students will want to display on the wall at home.

Creative Story Writing $420

6 weeks: 11/4-12/18
for children with basic literacy skillsHumans are born storytellers. When literate children learn the structure that underlies all stories, they’re able to write their own. Writing creative stories fuels the development of vocabulary, spelling ability, and writing skills. It grows the imagination as it empowers the intellect.
In this class, students are going to learn the 5 parts of story: characters, setting, problem, events, and solution. They’ll engage in oral storytelling activities, games, and activities designed to get the imagination flowing. Then they’ll learn how to write their ideas into an outline. Finally, they’ll flesh out their stories in a first draft form. They’ll engage with a supportive class community to revise and edit their stories into a final draft.

Directed Drawing $420
with Ms. Deva and Mr. Deveaux
Mon/Weds 1:30-3:00
6 weeks: 11/3-12/17
for children ages 5-7Drawing is such a practical and fun skill for children to learn. Children who learn to draw develop good printing and handwriting skills. They use drawing as a means of self expression and creativity.
In this class, students will learn to draw step by step. Students will draw a range of cute and interesting subjects. Along the way, they’ll be learning a descriptive language of lines, shapes, and color. They’ll be developing fine motor control and artistic ability while making friends and having fun.
